Ludwigshafen City Library
The Ludwigshafen City Library, with its central building on Bismarckstraße and eight branch libraries, is the largest public media collection in town. Alongside books, magazines, music and film it runs the Ideenw3rk makerspace and a broad program of events. The children's library sits a few steps away at Bismarckstraße 29, with its own collection and its own opening hours. Anyone living outside the centre will find a branch library nearby in Edigheim, Friesenheim, Gartenstadt, Mundenheim, Oggersheim, Oppau, Rheingönheim or Ruchheim.
The central library on Bismarckstraße
The central library at Bismarckstraße 44-48 holds the main collection: literature, non-fiction, music and reference are spread across several areas. It is open Tuesday to Friday from 10am to 7pm and on Saturdays from 10am to 3pm. The building also houses the Ideenw3rk makerspace, where technology and hands-on creative work have their place.
Children's library and branches
The children's library at Bismarckstraße 29 keeps its own hours: Tuesday to Friday from 1pm to 7pm and Saturday from 10am to 3pm. Eight branch libraries serve Edigheim, Friesenheim, Gartenstadt, Mundenheim, Oggersheim, Oppau, Rheingönheim and Ruchheim. Edigheim additionally runs as an open library, accessible beyond the staffed hours.
Good to know
Short-notice changes to opening hours are announced on the library's own website, which also hosts the online catalogue. The central location makes a visit easy to combine with a walk through the city centre or a stop at the nearby Wilhelm Hack Museum.
