Friesenheim

Friesenheim is shaped by the sprawling Ebertpark, a popular spot for recreation and events with its rose garden, ponds and the Friedrich-Ebert-Halle. The former suburb has kept its own distinct village core and combines middle-class residential streets with time-honored taverns and a thriving club life.

Location & Character

Friesenheim lies in the north of the city between the inner city and the industrial belt and is an established district shaped predominantly by housing. It combines older village-core buildings with middle-class residential streets and larger housing areas. Despite its closeness to the works, Friesenheim retains a generous green focal point in the Ebertpark.

Life in the District

The Ebertpark is both a meeting place and a recreation area: a rose garden, ponds, play areas and old stands of trees draw families and walkers, while the Friedrich-Ebert-Halle hosts concerts and events. Time-honored taverns, clubs and a village core of its own ensure that Friesenheim maintains a lively, self-contained quarter life.

History & Change

Friesenheim was an independent village before it was incorporated in the course of the city's growth and developed into a dense residential district. Remnants of the old village core still bear witness to this past today. The Ebertpark, originally laid out for an anniversary horticultural show, became the district's defining landmark and green heritage.
