Schiller House Oggersheim
The Schiller House in Oggersheim recalls a dramatic moment in German literary history. In 1782 the young Friedrich Schiller fled secretly from the Duchy of Württemberg to escape persecution by Duke Carl Eugen, and found refuge in what was then an inn in Oggersheim. Here he worked under the alias "Dr. Ritter" on his works, among them "Intrigue and Love". Today the restored house is a memorial and museum that vividly conveys Schiller's stay and his literary work of this period.
A piece of literary history
The Schiller House in Oggersheim recalls a dramatic moment in German literary history. In 1782 the young Friedrich Schiller fled secretly from the Duchy of Württemberg to escape persecution by Duke Carl Eugen, and found refuge in what was then an inn. That a classic author like Schiller went into hiding here makes the unassuming house an important place of remembrance in the Palatinate.
What to expect
In hiding, Schiller worked here under the alias "Dr. Ritter" on his works, among them "Intrigue and Love". Today the restored house is a memorial and museum that vividly conveys his stay and his literary work of this period. The rooms give an impression of the cramped and precarious conditions under which the poet then lived and wrote.
Tips for your visit

If you like, you can combine the visit with a walk to the nearby Baroque pilgrimage church and so experience two very different sides of the district in a single day.
